Cinco de Mayo History Cinco De Mayo is a holiday set in place in order to celebrate the Mexican army's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5,1862. The significance of their victor is remarkable considering that 4,000 Mexican soldiers defeated nearly 8,000 invading French soldiers.
