The History of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is celebrated every year as a way to honor, others and motherhood. This day has been celebrated in the United States as far back as 1870 when Julia Ward Howe wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation” which was the pacifist reaction to the havoc and carnage left from both the Franco-Prussian and the American Civil War.
Crafts
Mother’s Day is a holiday in which many people decide to give their mothers a sentimental homemade gift. Children often make homemade cards, and even pottery pieces in school as a gift for their mothers.
Mother’s Day Party Balloons
Mother’s Day balloons are a great way to show your mother how much you care about her and think of her. Sometimes people purchase these balloons as a way to add to their mother’s day party décor. Some of the balloons may be solid colors, but usually they have sayings on them which read “Happy Mother’s Day Mom”.
Entertainment Ideas
Sometimes people throw surprise parties as a way to entertain and honor their mothers on this particular day. Other times families decide to dedicate the entire day to their mother and do things like going out to dinner or even staying indoors and flipping through old family photo albums.
Mother’s Day Party Location
Mother’s Day parties are often thrown indoors; however depending on how many guests are expected to attend such a function usually determines where it will be held. Some people opt for a cookout with all their friends and family where as others prefer more quiet and personal celebrations like dinner as a family.
Educational Activities
In school we are often taught the importance of honoring our mother on mother’s day, however sometimes teachers also share the origins of this day. Family timelines, as well as family trees are a great educational activity to do. This is because you not only learn about your mother, but about all of the mothers in your entire family.
Mother’s Day Party Banners
Gift shops and regular outlet malls alike carry banners and signs for all occasions. Some sell banners which read “Happy Mother’s Day” as well as signs which read “We Love You Mom”. These type of banners and signs add a nice sentimental touch to any Mother’s Day party.
Mother’s Day Party Foods
When it comes to honoring your mother, nothing says “I love you” like throwing her a party and serving all of her favorite foods. Sometimes people serve chips and miniature appetizers for their guests to snack on until dinner time, but even those are centered on mom’s favorite foods.
Party Décor
In addition to any balloons used at parties another excellent way to decorate for a mother’s day party would be to add custom flower arrangements. These always add a special emphasis on the sentimental side when it comes to remembering your mother’s favorite flowers and colors.
Mother’s Day Party Games
When all of the family is gathered round, a family favorite game for all ages to play is a game of family flashback. This is a game where the mother and father and all of the family divide themselves up into 2 teams and use photo albums to play a game of “remember when”.
Party Music
Since this day is all about mom then the obvious choice of music would be mom’s favorites of course. Whether it is oldies or modern current music, anything mom likes would defiantly be the hit of the party.
Mother’s Day Party Colors
Unlike other holidays, with mother’s day there are no specific colors designated to represent this day. The colors which are used are entirely up to the person throwing the party. Many try to use only their mother’s favorite color combinations, while others tend to think outside the box and coordinate their mother’s favorites with other color schemes. Imprinted coffee mugs made the best party favors ever. Have a big Mothers Day celebration and give all the wonderful mothers a mug as appreciation for their company and for simply being mothers. Decorate the party with balloons, flowers, and confetti.
